Big News Morgans: It's because you’re not very good at negotiating. Deals with the press are typically a delicate dance.

Akainu: I shouldn’t have to negotiate anything. You work for us.

Big News Morgans: Wrong. We work with you when we feel like it and control a lot of the public's perception of you, when your own soldiers are putting you on blast of course.

Akainu (fuming): I can stop your publication Bird. Don’t think I won’t.

Big News Morgans (smug): Feel free to try. There’s no greater entertainment in this world than watching idiots like you fail at things everyone knew they’d fail.

[The temperature in the room rises and Akainu turns more and more red. Morgans looks on, amused and cheekily defiant. Suddenly the tension is broken as the door swings open.]

Hibari: Dad! We agreed you keep the temperature down in here! The new recruits are already suffering in the natural heat, we don’t need more!

Akainu: But sweetheart-

Jackie: And if I have to spend a night on cotton sheets with borrowed pyjamas again because of someone's love of antagonizing got us put on Marineford lockdown, I swear to the seas I’ll quit!

Big News Morgans: I wasn’t-

Hibari/Jackie: You better not be!

[Hibari and Jackie regard them with stern looks before closing the door again and disappearing. The two men make awkward eye contact.]

Big News Morgans: All this time I thought it was just Jackie but I suppose all teenage girls are just…like that.

Akainu: Indeed. Hibari presents challenges I wouldn’t wish on even pirate scum. The other day, she asked my opinion between two shirts and then returned the one I said I liked!

Big News Morgans: Been there. Last week, I was made the villain for cutting her 3 hour phone call short! It wasn’t even work related!

Akainu: I assume you traced the call to make sure it wasn’t some *clenches fist* boy?

Big News Morgans: Of course I did and thankfully it wasn’t! I take great care to keep those snot-nosed horndogs far away.

Akainu (nodding emphatically): Preaching to the choir. I do everything to keep my little flower safe and sound and she doesn’t even appreciate it!

Big News Morgans: Bah, they see our point one day and thank us.

Akainu (smiling): Hmm. It appears I’ve misjudged you Morgans. You do seem to be a wise man of reason.

Big News Morgans (smiling): You too Fleet Admiral. There just might be hope for this deal yet.

[Meanwhile]

Hibari: Did you also just feel a shiver roll down your spine?

Jackie: I think an unholy alliance has been formed…

Crocodile/Mihawk/Buggy: Terrifying??

King: Yes. As the kids would put it she gives me ‘the willies’.

Buggy:..Little Jackie gives you the willies?

King: She’s an unsettling little..THING! When I first her she was just…

[Flashback to around a year ago. Onigashima, Wano. King is doing everything in his power to not turn around as his superior hearing allows to hear every mutter that comes out of Jackie's mouth.]

Jackie: Where did you come from? How old are you? How tall are you? Where did you get that outfit? Are your eyes actually red? Why do you have feathered wings when your devil fruit is a dinosaur? What is your real name?

King:

[End of Flashback]

King: The worst part about that encounter is that she never did ask me those questions.

Mihawk: Isn’t that rather fortunate all things considered?

King: No. It means she’s already gotten the answers or she's been waiting to pounce the entire time!

Crocodile: Journalists can be tricky like that, always waiting to wring a story out of their next victim and then dump the body in an unmarked grave in the woods.

Buggy: WHAT JOURNALISTS HAVE YOU MET?!

[Meanwhile back at WEJ Headquarters..]

Jackie: Morgans I need to take my 15. My ear are on fire.

Big News Morgans: The expression is ‘my ears are burning’ and that’s just the price we pay for being public figures!

Jackie: 🫥 *points to her actually on fire ear*

Big News Morgans: …Go ahead and make it 20.

As far as I'm aware, Ace's former first mate from the Spade Pirates Masked Deuce is currently listed as working for the World Economic Journal. Not sure how canon this is, but One Piece episode A (not an actual episode, but a manga adaptation of the Ace light novel) states that after the Whitebeard Pirates split, he became a journalist for Morgans but refuses to publish his novel on Ace and is instead shifting his focus to Luffy and Sabo.

From what I've read of the Ace novel, Deuce is a reliable guy who's a quick-thinker with an eye for strategy and some medical knowledge since he was a former medical student who left home to seek adventure and also part of the Whitebeard Pirate's medical division under Marco. He's also pretty snippy about anyone who makes fun of his writing, either portraying them in a bad light or just flat-out leaving them out of the story.

What do you think Jackie's thoughts on him would be? Would they get along or are they more journalistic rivals?

I’d imagine they get along well enough, they just don’t hang out enough!

She had known about him back when the Whitebeard pirates were around, she just never properly met him and thus didn’t think much about him. That all changed one day after accidentally getting to close to a friendly spar on the Moby Dick and getting knocked into the water. He had been in the med bay and they even shared a nice moment together, she makes sure to return the favour now when they meet out at sea.

She argued heavily with Morgans against publishing the Ace exclusive issue and told him to lay off on bugging Deuce, they could lose a pretty incredible writer if he kept it up! She really does adore his writing, from his choice of topic down his vocabulary, she finds his pieces to be a breath of fresh air!

Deuce for this part…thought Jackie was so shady at first 😭😭. He genuinely believed she was secretly some evil little flying henchmen to Morgans. It wasn’t until that day in the med bay that he realized..she’s kinda just a kid?? A kinda weird kid obsessed with stories and people but still just a kid. He felt pretty bad, thinking so poorly of her and even brought it up once to apologize but she brushed it off without a second thought.

On his incredibly rare visits to meet with Morgans, the two carve out some time to shoot the breeze and speak of their travels, comparing the spots they ate at and the people they’ve met.

(And out of respect she restrains from asking about the mask that’s seemingly permanently stuck to his face and he pretends not to notice how badly she wants to.)

One of Morgans's stand-out moments for me is when he sees Vinsmoke "I'm the future King of the North Blue and my army of clones will reign supreme" Judge crying like the bitch he is as he's about to be assassinated by the Big Mom Pirates and going "Oh hell yeah, I'm taking pictures of this motherfucker as his life crumbles around him"

If not for further details about Luffy's involvement in the Whole Cake Incident, the photo of Judge's leaky idiot face would have been the cover page, but it still finds its way in the article.

Gotta love Morgans's messy self 😭😭 you can hate him all you want but can’t say he doesn’t get his scoop!

Just watching someone’s life fall apart from a distance and his immediate thought is “ah that’s tragic where’s my camera.”

The laughter inspiring picture of Judge Vinsmoke practically pissing his pants and begging to be spared absolutely finds its way to that edition of “Faces of the New World” segment of the paper, accidentally of course! They would never knowingly put a photo of that nature, especially of a king such as Judge, in the paper! It was just a little oops from the editing department, the individuals responsible have been fired and it’s probably best to put this whole incident behind them and focus on brighter things! Like the new “Sora of the Sea” segment that needed approval before printing…

The WEJ runs a special Valentine's Day edition every year that includes the coveted ‘Top Ten Bachelors and Bachelorettes of the Grand Line!’ list. It's usually fully of debutantes, lords and ladies, and nobles of all kinds with deep pockets and empty ring fingers. It’s one of their highest seasonal earners…that was until a certain gap-toothed courier got an even better idea!

Run a special edition of the list but pirates and revolutionaries, the criminals that captured the hearts of so many across the world! Plus instead of it being basically a status filled dick measuring contest, this could be a world wide competition won via voting! Simply fill out the form attached to your newspaper with the provided envelope and your favourite lawbreaking love can be featured front and center! You can even rig it if you want to (since it is about criminals anyway) but after your first free form there’s a small 100 beri fee for each additional page.

It's a very successful idea with thousands of votes sent in (and hundreds of thousands of beri) all that’s left to do is sort through it and judge the populace's choices!
